Tail Lights Q & A

Ken Westerlund: Is there a separate connector in the trunk area for the brake lights? The brake lights, and I think tail lights, are working intermittently on the left side of the Charger. Anyone had that problem before?

Roger Bohl: The only connector I know of is the one behind the kick panel. If both tail and direction/brake lights work intemittently than I would say a connection. If only the drictional/brake lights then I would say it is in your turn signal switch. Pull the steering wheel and first clean all 6 terminals, from there make sure all of them are making contact.

Bruce Blum: I had all kinds of tail light and brake light problems with my '67 when I first bought it. They did all sorts of weird things...some worked, some didn't, the center turn signal lights blinked reverse of the outer lights, etc. There's a fusible link wired in to the tail light circuit behind the left side of the trunk, behind the jack. Mine was fried and apparently the short was causing the strange behavior. I bought a new rear wiring harness and installed it (not tough at all). Not only did my tail lights begin working properly, my headlights started rotating as well! If you decide to replace the rear harness, while you have the left kickpanel out for hooking the harness up, replace the 30 amp circuit breaker for the rotating headlights while you're there.
