Q	06/12/04 Jack Wands: My steering wheel column just pulled up and almost out while I was driving. What I found out was the piece of rubber that go's between the column it self and the clamp bolted to the bottom of the dash was not reinstalled correctly. I placed it correctly and the column won't pull up now. My question, is this the only thing that holds the column from pulling out of the cup on the steering box spline or am I missing something??? There is the grease seal and retainer but that won't hold the shaft in place.
A	06/12/04 Ken Scobel: The clamp at the dash keeps the column in place. There is a snap ring at the top of the steering shaft that retains the upper bearing in place, keeping the shaft from pulling out of the column. Either one installed incorrectly could result in the steering coupling coming apart. BTW there is a specific dimension that needs to be set before tightening down the column clamp at the dash. Down at the coupling end there is a small drilling on the shaft, that needs to be positioned 13/16" from the top of the coupling. This allows freedom of movement of the coupling.
A	06/12/04 Tony: There should be a flange with 4 bolts where the column goes through the floor. then there should be a retainer flange that fits over a ring on the column its self, it has 2 bolts oposite each other. The retainer holds the column to the flange and the flange in turn holds the whole shebang to the floor.
